Hardness verification after heat treatment and surface hardness profile.
The hardness test measures a material's resistance to local plastic deformation and is the quickest way to tell whether heat treatment was applied correctly. Brinell suits soft and cast materials, Rockwell hardened steels and Vickers thin coatings and section profiles.
The test is done at several points on a prepared surface of the sample; the mean and scatter are written in the report. For case or nitriding depth, a micro-hardness profile (Vickers HV0.5/HV1) is taken from the section.
Sample surface preparation (grinding/polishing) is needed for the test; surface preparation is included in the price. For large parts, portable on-site hardness measurement can be done.
